Living Wage Award for Homecare Workers' Group

Homecare Workers' Group was awarded the Health & Social Care Champion award at this year's Living Wage Awards. Here's a short clip about it:

We became involved in the Living Wage Foundation's work after Rachel volunteered on a campaign by Citizens UK which is pushing for all care workers to be paid a real Living Wage.

Citizens UK's is the sister organisation of the Living Wage Foundation, and so the foundation welcomed Rachel into their process of defining their asks to MPs ahead of the general election. As a result, the foundation's asks around pay for care workers were amended to explicitly make reference to the issue of unpaid travel time, such that the experiences of domiciliary care workers (who make up 59% of the direct care workforce) would be better represented in subsequent conversations with politicians.

Citizens UK and the Living Wage Foundation have been incredibly supportive of Homecare Workers' Group right from day one; the last thing we expected was to be given an award. So, we want to say a big thank you to them, and to all other organisations who actively consult with the everyday people whose lives are impacted by their work.
